When I last met up with Paul, Olivia, Audrey and Arlo for a pre-sunset early evening shoot at the end of August, we’d discussed a new service I wanted to offer families, being a documentary family shoot.  Such a shoot is commonly referred to as a ‘Day in the Life’ shoot.  Basically it involves spending a period of time with a family – maybe a morning or an afternoon and evening to capture some natural images of a family going about their usual way.  Indeed, it can involve spending an entire day with a family from breakfast right round to bath time, teeth cleaning and a bed time story/ies.  I’m basically there as an observer to document your time together.  All the things that go unnoticed and in isolation activities which seem so routine, can actually be quite magical.

I was delighted when Paul and Olivia thought this would be a great opportunity for their family. When I arrived at their home, Olivia pointed out that Arlo had had a tumble and shiner had developed, isn’t that always the way?! I could have ‘digitally enhanced it’ (photoshopped it in other words!) but I wanted to give the family a true reflection of a slice of their life that day.  So from tea time, to a short play in the garden to bath time and bed time stories, here are a few of my favourite images from our time together….
