My very good friends Ben and Cass, their daughter Lyla and beloved Labrador Byron, often visit Covert Woods on the outskirts of Barham in Kent. They’d asked me to come and join them for a family documentary photo shoot on one of their trips out whilst there was still evidence of autumn and the glorious colours of the remaining foliage. On a rather drizzly day in November, I headed off with them in Ben’s favoured mode of transport – his land rover. Fun was had with hid and seek, finding a den deeper in the woods and stick throwing for Byron.
Despite the poor weather, spirits weren’t dampened and Lyla’s enthusiasm for the outdoors was just as evident. Byron, of course, had a whale of a time!
I wanted to faithfully capture their time together, Lyla’s many facial expressions and the love they have for Byron. It didn’t matter that the weather wasn’t picture perfect, it was more about capturing a moment in time for them as a family, doing what they love to do. Here are some of my favourite images from their family documentary photo shoot.
